A cape blazer (also known as an “omni-blazer”) typically features breast pockets and a fitted waistline to create an elegant balance between ladylike and sporty looks. The majority of cape blazers are made from lightweight, textured-fabrics that give off an air of sophistication without weighing you down. When crafting a cape blazer, make sure to ensure the coat features a notch collar and has a side slit or vent (see our gallery for some great examples).
Cape blazers can be worn with pants, pantsuits, and even skirts. They are typically worn with a matching blazer and skirt, but can also be worn with a simple sweater and jeans.
Always pair a cape blazer with slim-leg pants for an everyday look, add a casual pair of boots for weekend wear, or dress up your ensemble by wearing it under a wrap dress or fitted jacket.
A short blazer features short sleeves and is typically hemmed at all four edges to create a shorter silhouette. Short blazers are great for pairing with other small clothing items such as cropped pants, high waisted pants and pencil skirts.
While cape blazers are incredibly versatile, there are some things to keep in mind when wearing one. For example, your pants should be slim-fitting and of a similar fabric (see our gallery for styling tips). Don’t wear loose-fitting pants or skirts with a cape blazer as this will visually bulk up your silhouette. Also, try and avoid wearing a cape blazer that is too small – if the coat is too tight around your waist, the fabric will bunch, causing lines on your body.
Cape blazers are great for dressing up any outfit and are a perfect addition to your everyday wardrobe. They can be worn with just about anything and are an excellent alternative to the trench coat, especially for warmer months. Best of all, cape blazers transition seamlessly through seasons – pair it with a sweater as the temperature drops or add a scarf in the springtime.
